The Situation

A specialty rehabilitation and long-term acute care hospital caring for patients recovering from disabilities caused by injuries or illnesses, or from chronic or complex medical conditions was affected by a failure of a rooftop cooling system (RTU). Hospital and patient care applications for RTU’s typically have a life-safety based continuous duty cycle. ILC confirmed the Cause of Loss to be a failure of the Main Control Board in the RTU.

System Failure Analysis

ILC hired an independent testing laboratory to evaluate the integrity of the Main Control Board. The laboratory tests showed that the board had failed components, which confirmed the report by the service technician for the RTU.
