The Situation

The insured was using a broaching machine and broaching bar to produce gun barrels when the broaching bar shattered during operation. At the time, the insured was under contract with a vendor and faced the risk of losing the contract if production was delayed. ILC was requested to conduct a visual inspection of the equipment to assess the extent of the damage and determine whether it could be repaired or required replacement. Additionally, ILC was tasked with identifying the cause of the loss and assisting the adjuster in evaluating options to minimize business interruption. Although a replacement broaching bar was located, it had a potential lead time of 22 weeks for delivery.
