Job Opening – Forensic Electrical Engineer
Opportunity for a Forensic Electrical Engineer located in the western United States.
Industrial Loss Consultants Inc. (ILC), a consulting firm headquartered in Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs, is seeking a Forensic Electrical Engineer with a minimum of five years of experience performing root cause analysis on equipment and machinery failures, as well as experience providing solutions to repair and return damaged equipment and machinery to pre-loss condition. The most qualified candidate will have experience consulting on a variety of equipment and machinery from various industries and have the ability and knowledge to assess and determine the extent of damage and root cause of failure from an electrical standpoint. The position involves consulting on equipment or machinery that has been damaged due to fire, smoke, water, equipment malfunction, or other causes. This is a remote, work-from-home position that will require the most qualified candidate to have a strong knowledge of the electrical components of equipment and machinery. We seek an individual with the ability to travel nationwide as needed to perform on-site inspections of machinery and equipment that have experienced a loss, and to prepare reports with minimal oversight. Your ability to provide direction and project management of necessary repairs on equipment and machinery may also be required.
Requirements

Must hold a Professional Engineering (PE) license in the candidate’s resident state. Holding a PE license in multiple states is preferred.

Strong foundational knowledge of electrical engineering principles with knowledge of commercial and industrial systems, including determining the cause of loss for an electrical event.

Working knowledge and experience with electrical components contained in production lines, compressors, motors, drives, elevators, buildings, and other types of equipment and machinery.

The ability to identify the root cause and extent of damage to machinery and equipment after a loss/failure event has occurred, particularly concerning electronic components within the equipment

The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership abilities, with a proven ability to guide teams, coordinate multidisciplinary efforts, and deliver results under tight deadlines.

Must possess exceptional writing skills to coherently and persuasively articulate technical situations to a layperson audience, blending expert opinion and factual analysis in a structured and accessible manner.

Able to quantify or estimate repair or replacement costs and conduct supporting research.

The ability to present solutions to repair and return the damaged machinery or equipment to pre-loss condition is required.• Ability to navigate loss sites and climb onto equipment, ladders, catwalks, and other locations where the machinery is located is required.

The ability to compose accurate, concise, understandable reports summarizing observations and explaining conclusions is required.

Travel is required and varies depending on the assignment.

Prior forensic experience as an electrical engineer is required.

Excellent time management skills are required.

The ability to work alone with little supervision and to provide timely communication and reports to the ILC customer and ILC Management is required.

Exceptional verbal, written, and organizational skills are required.

Strong computer skills, including organization, file management, and knowledge of all Microsoft products, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, are required

Exceptional attention to detail and maintaining the confidentiality of all information provided are required.
